What is an Orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a doctor who specializes in aligning (“straightening”) teeth and correcting bites. Every orthodontist begins their educational journey in dental school. After completing dental school, some graduates go into practice as general dentists. Others choose to enter a dental specialty, which requires an additional 2-3 years of training. There are nine specialties defined by the American Dental Association. Some you are likely familiar with: Pediatric Dentistry (dentistry for children), Periodontics (dentistry focusing on the gums), and Oral Surgery.
